Class 2

Class 2 is a KS1 class with a mix of Year 1 and 2 children. It is taught by Miss Hellawell, and supported by Mrs Dixon, our Educational Teaching Assistant (ETA). Miss Platt and Mr Holroyd also support in Class 2 on a 1:1 basis.

Class 2 is a bridge between EYFS and KS2. During this time, we aim to nurture and build children’s confidence and abilities, both as learners and as individuals. We recognise that all children are unique and ensure a safe, happy environment for them to grow and develop in.

We strive for children to be excited about learning, and believe that this is when they will achieve their full potential. We rotate our topics on a 3-year-cycle. This year our topics will include: Light and Dark, Journeys and Transport, Shops and Food, Dinosaurs, Pirates, and Minibeasts.

Teaching and learning for Year 1 and 2 is based on the National Curriculum.
When teaching the core subjects, we use the following schemes to plan and deliver our lessons:
Maths – White Rose Maths
English – Talk for Writing
Phonics – Read Write Inc
Science – White Rose Science

We are also extremely lucky at Hepworth to have a wonderful school woodland that allows us to incorporate lots of outdoor learning into our curriculum. The children love to explore and we often go on woodland walks to observe and investigate seasonal changes to our environment.

By the time pupils leave Class 2 our aim is that they are happy, confident learners who are ambitious and excited for the next step in their learning journey: KS2.
